Pearl Jam Twenty

Director Cameron Crowe's definitive portrait of the band, released to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The film is told in big themes and bold colours with blistering sound, and chronicles the years leading up to the band's formation, the chaos that ensued soon-after being catapulted into superstardom, their step back from the spotlight with the instinct of self-preservation, and the creation of a trusted circle that would surround them—giving way to a work culture that would sustain them. The film celebrates the freedom that allows the band to make music without losing themselves, their fans, or the music lovers they'd always been.

The film had a huge global release on September 20th 2011, with Pearl Jam Twenty playing on almost 600 screens, in 44 countries, on the same day. The film played to capacity audiences in cities as diverse as Auckland, Sydney, Taipei, Johannesburg, Copenhagen, Rome, Berlin, Edinburgh, London, Guatemala, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, among many others. Several sites added extra screenings as the initial ones sold out, with some cinemas playing up to 6 shows on the evening of September 20th. Box office charts for the day saw Pearl Jam Twenty in the top 5 films of many countries, and the subsequent DVD release also topped the charts around the world.
